Speech and Occupational Therapy in Billings
Speech therapists specialize in the assessment and treatment of human communication, its development, and its disorders. speech and language pathologist (SLPs) assess speech, language, cognitive-communication, and oral/feeding/swallowing skills. In autism the emphasis is on improving verbal, nonverbal, and social communication. The overall goal is to help the person communicate in more useful and functional ways.
Occupational Therapists use occupational therapy primarily to deal with sensory issues, and improve emotional regulation and executive function. For children with autism, OTs often use the activities that get children regulated to enable the child to socially engage.
Remember that all therapy works much better if you practice the skills taught during the sessions at home. This usually means that the parent will have to attend or at least get instruction from the therapist about what to do during the week.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
“ABA is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. It helps us understand how behavior works, how behavior is affected by the environment and how learning takes place. ABA therapy applies our understanding of how behavior works in real situations. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning.” “A good ABA program for autism is not a one-size fits all program. It should be written to meet the needs of each individual learner. An ABA program should be used to help each person work on skills that will help them become more independent and successful.” ** Cited from https://www.autismspeaks.org/
